How to Get Back Into Soccer as an Adult
By Oree Koblentz · October 13, 2026
The simplest way to get back into soccer as an adult is to book a coached, all-levels class instead of jumping straight into a league. In one session you get a warm-up, technical work and real small-sided games — with no team to find and no season to commit to. Go once, see how it feels, and build from there.
Do I need to get fit before I start playing again?
No. Playing is how the fitness comes back. A 60-minute class of drills and small-sided games lets you work at your own pace, and the soccer itself is the workout. You don't have to win every sprint in your first week back.
Should I join a league or a class first?
If you've been away for years, a class is the easier first step. A league usually expects a team and a whole season; a class lets you come on your own, one session at a time. Back2Soccer isn't a league — there are no teams, no standings and no season — so you can drop in for a single class whenever it fits.
What should I bring to my first session back?
- Shin guards — they're required, and you can rent a pair at checkout if you don't have your own.
- The right shoes for the field: some fields are turf shoes only (no cleats) — each class's page says which.
- Water and comfortable athletic clothing.
How do I ease back in without overdoing it?
Arrive in time for the warm-up, build up to full-speed sprints rather than starting with them, and listen to your body over your first few sessions. That's why every class starts with a warm-up and technical work before the games.

No. Classes are open to all adults 19 and older, with age bands including 45+, and you don't need to be fit before you start.
Do I need a team to get back into soccer?
No. You sign up on your own — every class splits players into small-sided 8v8 games, so you get real game time without bringing a team.
